Pick a color pick a color pick a color, Sideline..

It's time to pick a door color,,, help!

Perhaps you remember the Summer of 2011 Project?
What I called "The Garden Shed" Sideline Grandpa called a "Storage Barn".

So it began in the Spring of 2011, the shed is now tucked away right in this spot.

I had but two requests for this structure we were building;
#1. a work surface inside tucked under a window with a view to the lake, please.

And there it is!

#2. could it please have some type of cuteness factor?

I think we hit it good compromise between my initial idea of having glass French doors and the reality of hauling a wheel barrel and lawn mower through those doors.

By the fall The Garden Shed was weather tight and ready to be locked up to await her pretty door paint.
The time has arrived, time, Sideline, to pick that pretty door color,
what's it going to be; red, blue or green?
HELP!

Since the shed and cottage siding colors match
the doors should too.
Currently the cottage doors are blue, there are two cottage doors, totalling three doors to paint.
In case you're adding this up, which you can bet I am.
It's a nice blue, a blue I found at the Habitat for Humanity thrift store and
went "Walla that's it!!"
Not quite that easy this time.

Other considerations on color choice are this bench.
This bench that was turned from blue to red last year by our sweet young teen granddaughter
who was not driving a car last year but will be very soon.

She did a beautiful job painting it red and we love it.
It sits right outside the back door.
The non-lakeside door, which is the back.

Let's get back to paint.

Red, it's so bright and happy.

I considered going green..
Green is hip and current.
Green would be so fresh
and should it be a brownish green would blend with the landscaping nicely.
Look at these greens.. they're so tempting.

Can you picture it?
Green is great..
Green is a favorite of mine actually but
Green is not going to be the color..
Green is just not happy and bright enough for this place.

But red is.

ummmm.... red... all sorts of shades of red.
This is where I've landed.. in red-land.
Since the bench looks spectacular against all the plant life, we're going with red.
But.
Not too pink, and not too dark.
With a bit of an orange or brown .
Not too maroon. and certainly not rose.

We're down to four choices.
These colors are from Benjamin Moore and Sherwin Willams.
Top: Ben. Moore's Caliente on the left,  S.W. Bolero on the right.
Bottom: Ben Moore's Deep Crimson and the color strip with Spanish Red and Tucson Red which
are still in play.

What to do?!

Red is a year around color, it's patriotic, perfect for July 4th.
It's great in the fall and of course for Christmas.
I'm going red.

Bolero is too true.. we need something a bit more brown.

This one.

Deep Crimson from Benjamin Moore's California Paints.
(even though it seems pink.. it's not, it's cinnamon-y)

To support the red doors let's plant red begonias;
 dragon wing, wax
and non-stop..

Oh my heart.. excited to get started.

It's time to buy paint!
Thanks for talking this through..

  1. I still like the Caliente the best--those California people are pretty lame when it comes to describing their paints and what effect they will have on you and your home....

    1. Those California people don't make grand promises about the power of their colors.. good thought! That wasn't part of my consideration. ..hmmmm... sideline..
