And we went with red.. red.. red... love the red!

What I love about classic metal lawn chairs is they can really take it;
take all sorts of nasty weather,
take being hauled around,
and take years of use,
thankfully they'll take lots of painting!

I bought two metal yard chairs about 20 years ago and they were well worth the yard sale price. Whatever that was.  Good night sister, I don't remember what I paid.

Cute though, huh? Cute and surprisingly light weight but not light weight enough for me to haul them up the 74,000000 steps from the beach to the cottage.

So when it was time to repaint them I decided to take the supplies down to the lakeside.
The chair looks pretty good in the photo above but here's the truth of the matter;

Yowzers, they were a royal mess.

And at one time yellow.

 As with all painting projects the prep time takes far longer than the painting time.
Just two simple tools, a wire brush and sanding block, were used to remove the flakey, cracking old paint. OK, I might have grabbed a flat head screw driver for some of those crevices.

Notice the holes in the bottom of the seat, Sideline Grandpa drilled them so we didn't sit in little pools of rain water.

After sanding and DE-flaking the chairs I used a picnic table as a cleaning station to wash the chairs with soapy water then followed by clear water. And to let them dry in the sun without getting sand on the legs.

For the color we've gone red, RED, hot and snazzy red, Benjamin Moore's Caliente Red in Aura paint.

Actually I let Candice Olsen make the paint color decision. She's just so good at it.
After researching the hottest trending colors for 2012 and finding Caliente to be
Candice's favorite red it was a done deal!

 I love Candice Olsen's design work and will happily trust her opinion.

 Here we go!
****
And here they are!

Caliente, it's bright, it's clear, it's really red
and now it's everywhere.

 Doors.

 And the bench..

You know what? There's still paint in that can..hmmm...

Sideline Grandma.
Thanks for visiting us at the Codge.
