The inspiration for the project comes
from the star quilt pictured above.
Actually I love star quilts and have never made one.
So it's about time, don't you think?
I decided to use up the 'hot' colored fabrics and pulled the red, yellow and orange scraps, plus I
had to buy two additional deep red fabrics.
Look how pretty they are together.
Because pressing the fabric is important
to achieve an accurately cut shape,
diamond, in this case,
I should tell you I didn't have an iron on the day these were cut.
My 25+ year old iron went
ka-putt about three weeks ago.
I decided to waited until the fantastic half price
Deer Hunting Season Opener Sale
at our local hardware on Nov. 15, from 6 - 9 p.m., to get a new one.
It was Ladies Night but plenty of men were in that store. In fact I wonder who stayed home?
The sale drew 100's and
100's of people from town, it was festive with food and beverages. And included very long lines,
I had a terrific conversation with an 88 year old lady as we waited in line for 40 minutes.
Did you know today is a motor-mouth day?
Perhaps I should focus on the "leftover" topic?
* Below you'll see the cardboard template that was used to create the diamond shapes for the
8 pointed stars.
Quilting is a very simple process of tracing around the shape with a pencil (no pens allowed) then sewing the pieces together using a
1/4 inch seam allowance.
All 12 stars are completed..
Although it would be great to show you a finished quilt,
well.. my friends, that will take a few months and
who wants to wait that long?
So here are the stars.
They await their
white corners and triangles pieces,
when that is finished
I'll sew the whole thing together and show you.
That should be sometime in 2012. Sideline.. Bye! |
