It's a world of it's own.. Mackinac Island

We spent a couple of days on the princess jewel of Michigan, the tiny island of Mackinac.
Where the State Police officers ride bikes and the faint smell of horse manure is in the air.
Where the only motorize vehicles allowed (in sight) are golf carts.
Where the amazing Grand Hotel is located, which was featured the movie Somewhere in Time. The front sitting room of the Inn where we stayed was packed with a tour group of people who sat in total silence watching that movie on the only television  in the place. I quietly slipped right past all the wicker chairs and up to my room that evening. It was intense!

After leaving our car in overight parking on the mainland we approach the island, this is the magnificient view of the Grand Hotel from the ferry.

Here it is, the GRAND Hotel!

Yes, it truly is huge.

Oh, the porch!

The wonderful Windermere Hotel.
Located right across from our ferry boat dock.
Our sore legs, knees and feet were happy about this after a day.5 of walking.

Isn't it adorable?

And welcoming?

I loved this porch.

We were blessed to spend our time on the island at the Windermere Hotel which overlooks Lake Huron and the main street of the island.
Breakfast was served on the bright sunporch with a view of the garden.

Next year I must grow giant zinnias
and I must develop our side yard gardens.
What the Mackinac Island gardeners do with side yards was intriguing.
See two of them below.

Everything is transported on flat bed wagons.
A wedding was to be held at Mission Point Resort.
We spotted a florist exiting the ferry on Thursday morning carrying a box of calla lily bouquets.

Oh and...
Good walking shoes are a must!

A place all it's own, another world..

and absolutely charming.

He had to visit and pet every fenced in horse.

Next up.. the vacation mansions.
